An archetype is a universal symbol for something. For example an archetype for american schools, is the yellow schoolbus. One common archetype is the child, and is featured in the book Hatchet by Gary Paulson. This archetype represents our birth or hope and promise for a new beginning. It is represented in this book because the main character has to start from the very beginning and find a way to survive in the wild by himself with little to no survival experience. He developes new instincts that are hidden in all people because people are accustomed to today's life. In this way he is the only person when he is rescued and is " reborn ", " so in my opinion the book Hatchet successfully represents the child archetype.
